Final Ancillary Task: Poster

For my ancillary products, I was more inspired by a more modern style of comic books rather than the old four colour comics with the Ben Day dots (which inspired Danielle's ancillary work). Mine are more of a subtle comic style.

Evaluation: Question 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

"New Digital media have fundamentally changed the ways in which we engage with all the media" - David Gauntlett (2007)
New digital media technology is constantly developing and changing the way we consume and react to media in all forms. Different forms of media are almost always found working in synergy with one another to create a complex web of networks to different audiences around the world. (Things like TV, radio, online and social networking). This could not have been possible in recent years. Synergy has changed the way we see media and has risen many possibilities in the media industry.

Evaluation: Question 3 part 2

How did you attract your audience?

Evaluation: Question 3 part 1

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

We showed the music video to four people. Two were of our target audience age and the other were of an older generation - to experiment with various ages. As expected, the two younger girls enjoyed the video and surprisingly so did the older couple. Everyone understood the narrative and found the video amusing. This goes to show how our video can attract a wide range of audiences with it being of a comedy genre, whether you like superheroes/comic books or not. Our original idea was going to be a lot more realistic, dramatic and go with a much slower song, however, instead we changed it to a comedy genre which overall ended up more successful as it appeals to a wider audience. The super hero scenes are deliberately bad to make it more comical - with inspiration from batman 1966 - and this can technically be seen as more realistic as super heroes are not real, therefore this style of film is more believable and relatable to the audience. The main criticism we got from our audience feedback was that there should have been more school/comic scenes, to help the narrative flow better. However, this was not possible due to casting issues and it was a shame we couldn't add more of the main narrative to our video, but it could not be helped.

Getting let down

We have been extremely let down with filming once again, and our main character, Rebecca is unable to film with us full stop. We have had to change our original idea for shots and narrative as having Rebecca is no longer possible... As a last resort, we used myself as a sort of 'stunt double' as my hair could be seen as similar to hers. As daunting as this all was, we managed to gather a few clips which we can include in our music video in order to make the narrative make more sense, as these clips were very important to the storyline. We also gathered some panning shots of comic book pages as another means of filling space as, of course, there was not much we could do without Rebecca. However, we are optimistic that during the editing process, we can make this work.

Music Video (draft)

Looking at this draft, we still need to add school/bully clips to fill in some gaps (mainly near the start of the video). There are a few shots I need to crop very slightly as you can just see the shadow of the tripod, as well as change a random black and white clip we somehow forgot to change back to full colour. Overall however, we are pleased with how the video seems to be progressing... The next step is to find another time when Rebecca is free so we can gather the last shots in order to complete the video.

Filming Hero scenes

We managed to find a time where we could film sections with our hero character. Once again we had a lot of fun and we believe we have enough hero footage for our music video. All that's left to do are the school scenes.

Saturday 21 March 2015

Filming Villain scenes

Since out main character couldn't make it to the filming day, instead we got lots of extra footage of the two villains, Alex and Emily. We had a lot of fun filming with the costumes and set and both cast members were just as enthusiastic. It's sad we weren't able to film the scenes we wanted but we got a lot of usable footage anyhow and are well prepared for when we are able to film Rebecca as the hero role.

Filming: we've been let down

Saturday 14 March 2015

Final Filming date

We have organised a day with all our cast do do filming. We will probably be able to film the entire music video that day, including the school/bully scenes and the super hero/villain scenes with full costume and the set. Our set is now fully complete and we have sorted out costume for the two villains (cast members Alex and Emily).

Friday 13 March 2015

filming gym scenes

As our main character isn't free often, we managed to grab her for a short while to film some gym/training scenes. These will be fore when the 'nerd' starts training to become what they aspire to be most, like a super hero. We shot scenes which could be compared to the fighting scenes we will be filming later on in full super hero costume. A lot of it of course is very comical which fits perfectly with the style of our video.

Old Batman episodes

We have taken a lot of inspiration from the 1966 Batman series. It is full of cheesy fighting scenes and amusing costumes. When it was aired it would have seemed a lot different to an audience, btu to a modern audience, the style of the episodes can be seen as quite amusing. We have decided to make a sort of 'spoof' music video inspired by Batman. Here we will have a similar style of costume (not the most convincing of costumes compared to blockbuster superhero movies today) and the use of tilted camera angles. We will also be adding the same onomatopoeia during our fighting scenes as used in the batman episodes.

Filming plans

Our main cast member, Rebecca, sadly isn't free very often to film. So we will have to somehow organise a time when she is free and make sure the other two cast members are free also. We are working towards finding a day where we can get all the filming out of the way at once since filming opportunities are rare within her busy schedule.

Photoshoot

We managed to take lots of photographs of both Rebecca and Adam for our ancillary tasks (here are a few). We took over 100 shots to make sure we had many to choose from.

Starting Digipak

So far I have just been distorting the font I used for my ancillary poster. I may end up changing my font depending on how well it suits the photographs I will take for both my poster and Digipak.

Friday 16 January 2015

poster screenshot

I have had to shorten the name on my poster to match my partners, (Dan Scott instead of Daniel Scott). I have had to alter some of my sizes in order to make it fit. I have also added parts where I will soon add more suitable text. I will first get a photograph to add in to this poster then i will fill in the missing text.

Start of Ancillary poster

This is the start of my advertisement poster. Right now it is very rough as I have not yet got photographs and the font I have used I will probably change depending on what goes together throughout its development. Also titles such as 'Something Tour' will be altered, for now this is just a rough draft. I have also added a small box where the album cover will be placed. I have decided to make green a main colour as the costume we have for our music video consists of a green mask and cape.

Tuesday 13 January 2015

Poster template

This is the poster I am using as a template for my own advertisement poster as I like the overall layout. I will of course be adding elements to make it suit more towards our music video theme.

Filming put on hold

At this moment in time there are a lot of things going on therefore we and our cast are unable to film. So for now our filming has been put on hold due to deadlines and school shows. For now, media wise, we will focus on beginning our ancillary products which are to produce a Digipak and an advertisement poster.

Thursday 8 January 2015

Casting

We have casted our main super hero / typical nerd character for our narrative. This part will be played by Rebecca Graham, but again we will have to organise times where we are all free to get more filming done.

FINALLY GOT TO FILMING!

We finally got the performance filmed! we have looked at the footage and we are happy with what we have got. When it comes to editing we will know whether we need to film some more performance parts or whether what we have will be enough. However, if we do need more I will have to be in a different location to avoid obvious lighting changes in the shots as we did film outdoors.

(add footage of performance element)
